The Gambling Evaluation and Reduction Program (GEAR)The Gambling Evaluation and Reduction Program (GEAR) is a confidential, educational, phone-based counseling program. GEAR is designed to help gamblers steer away from potentially harmful gambling patterns or stop gambling completely without going to a treatment center. Oregon's GEAR program is designed for gamblers seeking change. It offers the tools and support to modify unwanted gambling patterns - without traveling to a counselor's office. GEAR is the first home-based counseling program in the United States. It combines phone consultation with certified counselors, workbook exercises, and referral resources to give participants the tools and motivation to make good choices about if and how much to gamble. Who Should Consider GEAR?1. Anyone who thinks their gambling is getting out of hand. How to Sign up for GEARThere is no charge for GEAR and it is easy to enroll. Simply call this toll-free numbers: 877-695-4648 (24-hour help line). A qualified counselor will talk to you about your gambling to determine if GEAR is right for you. How to Get HelpThe Oregon Problem Gambling Helpline has been in operation since 2001 and is currently taking approximately 5,000 calls a year. Trained professional staff members are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to listen, educate, answer questions, and refer people to free confidential treatment services. If you (or someone you know) are gambling too much, you can call the Oregon Problem Gambling Helpline and speak to a certified gambling counselor.
